Krystal Institute Collaborates with Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Design to Develop Enterprise Digital Transformation Strategies

Krystal Institute, along with affiliated company CG Global Entertainment Limited (CGGE), announced today the successful completion of a joint strategic research collaboration with the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Established under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Project Launch Program, the initiative titled “Designing Strategies for Enterprise Digital Transformation” leverages the creativity and analytical skills of students from the Master of Design in Innovation Business (MDes) program to address the challenges of transitioning corporate ecosystems from closed-source to open-source software.

The collaboration focused on the theme “From Closed to Open: Innovating the ‘Office’ Transformation.” It addressed the urgent need for enterprises to break free from dependence on proprietary paid software and embrace the flexibility and sustainability of open-source alternatives. As enterprises embark on digital transformation, Krystal Institute and CGGE will provide essential value-added services—including system maintenance, professional training, and technical development—structured similarly to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model.

During the 13-week project, students from PolyU's MDes in Innovative Business Design applied advanced design thinking frameworks to explore complex business and design challenges associated with this technological shift. Their research delved into several key areas, including:

  • Trends and impacts of global trade relations on technology adoption
  • Dynamics of learning and development communities around open-source technologies
  • Synergy opportunities identified through analysis of internal and external resources

“The future of enterprise technology is open, yet transformation requires more than a technology roadmap; it demands a strategic, human-centered approach,” “Our collaboration with the PolyU School of Design has been invaluable,” said Timothy Tan, Engagement Manager at Krystal Institute. “The students brought fresh perspectives and rigorous analysis, applying creative frameworks to strategize pathways that will help guide enterprises through this critical transformation. Their work lays a solid foundation for our future services.”

This project serves as a vital component of the interdisciplinary curriculum within the Master of Innovation in Business Design program. Students engaged in a four-phase design thinking process: discovery, definition, development, and delivery. This structured approach ensured the final proposals were not only innovative but grounded in thorough market research and systematic analysis.

The outcomes of this research collaboration will inform the development of training and technical support services for the Krystal Institute, further strengthening its mission to enhance content creation capabilities and empower businesses in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
